The new name is “Reiwa”.
Yesterday, April 1, the new fiscal year started with the announcement of the business plan for the new fiscal year at 10:00 a.m. After the meeting, all the employees gathered in front of the TV to wait for the announcement of the new name by Chief Cabinet Secretary Kan at 11:30 a.m. However, there was no announcement, and the Chief Cabinet Secretary appeared at 11:40 a.m. with a nervous look on his face. The new name is “Reiwa”. I was puzzled for a moment… The Chief Cabinet Secretary then gave a brief explanation of the background, explaining that it was a quote from the Manyoshu.
I don’t know what’s so difficult about it, but I honestly thought the impression I got from the letter “Reiwa” was coldness and harshness. However, as time went by, I gradually felt the good sound of it, and today, I have come to think, “It’s a wonderful Gengo” very simply.
The Heisei era is only one month away, and on May 1, Seiwa will start. Somehow, it’s becoming fun…. There’s nothing in particular, but…
“Reiwa”, Banzai. Thank you very much, Heisei-san…
