カンボジアの学校
昨年暮れにカンボジアの地雷処理に一命を賭している、小生の友人(左端の男性)を訪ねカンボジアに行った折、現地の子供の笑顔と人懐こさに魅かれ、小学校の寄贈を決意した。
彼にその旨を彼に告げると、数日で話をまとめ、早や建設工事にかかっている。その現地の様子がメールがで送られてきた。
松谷さん
バッタンバン州プノンプラ郡のオ・トム村に建設中の小学校「オ・トム・松谷スクール」は、予定通り建設が進んでいます。
5月30日の完成検査、6月中旬の竣工式に向けて郡長や村人がやっています。
それにしても見事に何もないところだね。テントは多分作業員の宿舎と云うか、ここで奥さんが煮炊きをして食事を作り、夜はハンモッグで寝るのが普通とか・・。
At the end of last year, when I visited Cambodia to visit my friend (the man on the far left) who is risking his life to dispose of landmines in Cambodia, I was fascinated by the smiles and friendliness of the local children and decided to donate an elementary school.
I told him about it, and we got the story together in a few days, and the construction work is on as soon as possible. I received an email describing the situation at the site.

The construction of the primary school, O Tom Matsutani School, which is under construction in O Tom village, Punongpura District, Battambang Province, is proceeding as planned.
The county mayor and villagers are preparing for a completion inspection on May 30 and a dedication ceremony in mid-June.
It’s a spectacularly uneventful place, nonetheless. The tent is probably a worker’s quarters, or a place where the wife cooks a meal and sleeps in a hammock at night…
